Raj Do some simple checks to see what may be using a lot of electricity. Try and do it in the day time as you will have no lights and I wouldn't want anyone to fall.Depending on the type of consumer unit you have Fused or mcb trips note the meter reading then isolate or turn off each circuit one by one the finally turn off the main switch. If you have an old type meter you will be able the see the wheel going round, which should completely stop. If you have a digital meter you will have to wait a while to see if the numbers increase, or there maybe a indication led on the meter that goes off when the load has been turned off.If you live in a flat and the wheels still creeps or the numbers increase and you are sure you have isolated every thing. Has any electrical work been carried out in the block a few months back, as it has been known for a supply to be fed off another supply. The other problems are any appliance with a thermostat. The thermostat can just stop working with the contacts closed or the contacts weld together when closing so keep the power on all the time. Of coarse the meter could be knackered.Sorry this post is so long, but it takes a short while to check but a novel to write about it.
