Osterley Station Car Park being built over

Just seen the article on the front page.  It won't affect me in any way but surely that car park is used by commuters parking before taking the underground services.   Is that going to be totally removed once the new blocks of flats are built and does it matter?

That is correct. Affordable housing !!! Its just a bad joke and an insult to people who live nearby.

The definition of so-called 'affordable' housing is 80% of the local market rent - so as usual I suspect there won't be too many people on average wages locally being able to afford these flats.

Planning policy in London is to discourage car ownership. Very good. So why do people have to pay to get a bus or train? Surely transport should be free. Need to go to Bristol on business, again it should be free. Luxembourg are putting it through at the moment. WHY ARENT WE?

Planning policy in London is to discourage car ownership, especially at locations with good access to public transport. Hence the move to developments with no parking apart from a few disabled spaces. Young flat dwellers in London do not own cars, my 31 yr old son living in a house share in Brixton does not even have a driving licence, despite my encouragement to get one as an essential life skill!

Surely if flats are going to be bulit on legs then several floors of car parking could have been built. With flats on top.

Jeanette, a car park will remain at ground level with the flats above 'on stilts' Several car spaces will be reserved for residents with blue badges and there will be many cycle spaces. So parking for commuters will remain but I imagine less than there is now. Surely the addition of affordable accommodation is preferable to commuter parking? (though it depends on what type of 'affordable' it is!)

Provision of parking has gone from one extreme to the other. There needs to be more space for deliveries and dropping-off points, carers and doctors and District Nurses etc and bicycle stands and bus-stops and parking of mobility scooters and cars for those who need them eg the disabled (rather than those who just want to flaunt them or flaunt their ability to afford them).
