What an absolute waste of cash.

When i ventured down to Twickenham yesterday afternoon for a pint and a read of the paper i thought i had wandered into a war zone.The amount of Police just sitting in vans(mostly rented)was unbelievable and the vans were all on yellow lines of course.Was there a big protest planned in the area or perhaps a major football match with a long history of trouble? No,it was to keep order at the U2 concert a few hours later!The sight of so many Police loading their vans with bottled water and boxes full of food from McDonalds was amazing and i would guess the majority on a very decent overtime rate.Did every officer in the West of London put their name down on the roster sheet to "work" in Twickenham yesterday because of the extra cash,free lunch and a concert to watch as well?Get burgled and wait days to see them but throw a concert and theres hundreds about!!

Paul:Maybe the Police will be re-imbursed for their expenses by the U2 concert organisers?  Maybe not!! How do you find the answers these questions?I saw a report recently that said that it costs £170 per hour to put a Policeman on duty!! That calculation included pay and allowances,increments to take into account holidays, sick leave, pay for all those years when they are in retirement mode, sports facilities and masses of other things including training expenses.!!The real cost and effectiveness of Policeing is an area of research that perhaps  is hardly ever investigated in the public domain.Add to that all the issues raised by Brentford Councillor Edwards at the Netley Road Residents meeting...and you have the beginning of a very interesting and time consuming study  of  WHAT ACTUALLY GOES ON!!
