Starting Friends of Waterman's Park Group

As you may have read on this site, some local residents, including me, are starting a Friends of Waterman’s Park group.  Our aims are: To help maintain and enhance Waterman’s Park, and its access to the River Thames for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors. To encourage access to the park, creating events which benefit the whole community and promote a sense of community spirit.   To promote the importance of retaining our green spaces, encouraging the community to become involved in park projects and to help preserve this important piece of local green space, enhancing it, and making it an attractive and accessible area for all.If you’d like to join us, or just find out more, please come to our inaugural meeting next Monday – a week today, March 4th – at 7 p.m. in the Watermans Arts Centre, Lower Level.

There is a huge surface car park in Cannes right in front of the marina.

Not the sort of things that they have in Cannes then?!I had been thinking how nice it would be to cycle down to the river and the cinema - but of course the cinema won't be there:(

I shouldn't think so.  These are going to be narrow-boats, houseboats, such as we already have on the canal at Brentford, or so I'm told.

Hi Philippa, I'm writing as a committee member of the newly-formed Friends of Watermans Park Group.  I am perplexed as to why a car park is scheduled to be built within the Park at the eastern end, to serve the needs of the new Marina taking away valuable green, community space, when a 500 place car park is currently under construction opposite Morrisons. Surely the new boaters (when they arrive) could use that car park instead?

Shouldn't there be more underground car parks rather than using up leisure space?  We can't go on expecting to have a car each.  There just isn't space.

Waterman's Park is a small park compared to some. So why would anyone with half a brain want to put a cycle lane through a park and build a car park for the marina? If both these went ahead at least 10-15% of the park will be lost.

Hello Paul.  As you probably know significant changes are planned for Waterman's Park - the new marina, the car park at the eastern end, and CS9.  All these are matters which we intend to address once the group is fully formed and up and running.  Do come to our inaugural meeting on Monday at 7 p.m.at the Watermans Arts Centre, Lower Level.
