Does anyone know what's going on, seems to be completely new reception staff (pleasant and helpful too). A practice nurse told me that the old ones had quit, some of the doctors too.

I think you are right - I have had various issues recently with the reception staff @ the Albany Practice & these are the subject of two NHS complaints.

Hello, I think you may be referring to one of the other practices based in Brentford Health Centre - the Albany Practice or Brentford Family Practice. Brentford Group Practice does not have a new reception team, all the present staff have been with the practice for some time. Also, out of 7 doctors one retired in January the rest have been at the practice for several years. Patients often confuse the practices and are sometimes not aware that there are three practices at the health centre.

The hours have also been extended to include early evenings and Saturday mornings for GP appointments

Agree about reception staff at Brentford Group Practice. Still having to wait 3 weeks for an appointment even though they have several new doctors. A little known fact is that if you phone at 6.45 am you can get an emergency appointment for that day.

We can get repeat prescriptions online - and when you go on the site there is a record of what you've had previously so that all you have to do is tick alongside the meds. you want. That then goes to the pharmacy for collection.

An overhaul of receptionists isn't just in Brentford - my GP practice in Chiswick also has completely new, inexperienced staff. It's taking a while to "bed" them in. Also the new prescription service is not very efficient in my opinion. This is where you can no longer ask your local pharmacist to re-order your routine prescription but have to email or phone the GPs. Several times I have heard confused patients and receptionists not understanding one another and arguing over how to order the correct product. It seems the receptionist cannot (will not??) look up the patient's record to check for the exact name of the particular "my usual antibiotic/tablet please". Receptionist insists on the exact name, patient can only hazard a guess having not brought the almost empty pill box in with them. I've sat there and heard this argument happening several times just recently and it can go on for well over 5 mins. not always ending with a satisfied patient!
