Calling Isleworth Councillors!  Nasty obstacle in Church Street

Could I draw your attention to that unfriendly width-restrictor  in the middle of Church Street..not far from the junctions with Mill Plat and Millside Place.There it lies in the middle of the road...inviting drivers to chance their arm in getting their vehicles through the restricted widths of the posts.Its ok driving from the London Apprentice through the narrow posts ..to Lower Square...but in the reverse direction it can be a sod!! excuse the French!The metal surround..at the base... against which ones wheels can rub..has a nasty pointed corner/edge...and the tyres do sometimes get very inconveniently  PUNCTUREd, or incur damage to the side walls.This is not a case of bad driving..but a case of a dangerous and poorly designed road furniture item being installed IN ISLEWORTH and being left ..for months now...unattended too.Could one of the Isleworth's fine Councillors ..or anyone else..take the matter up..or post me the name and Department at the Civic Centre which could deal with this prompty. Its disgraceful.

That's true. I bumped John's car on it once and didn't tell him!

Granted Sally, but I think it is the nature of the restrictor and its potential to damage vehicles, not its presence in itself, which Jim is complaining about.

I think you may be out of luck Jim!The obstruction was put there to try to stop people using Church Street as a rat run (which I have to admit on the rare occasion I get to borrow John's car I do myself)The new traffic scheme that Phil mentioned will also place another bollard in the middle of the road at the point where there is the very tight bend (Just over the bridge, away from the LA pub)  to stop people drifting on to the other side of the road.

"However if this is just a question of doing something about the metal surround then I can see no good reason to wait.Could you give me some more info on this please Jim?"Thanks for that very quick response Phil...I didn't mean to disturb your activities during this very sunny early evening.Its the metal surround..at ground level..on the eastbound side of the width restrictor.  It has a sharp cornered edge....not a curved friendly edge as tyres would like.Maybe be someone could have a look whilst on they evening or daytime stroll.If you can sort this Phil..many motorists will be grateful.The engineers who installed the metal surround like that should be retrained!

JimIs it the width restrictor itself which has incurred your wrath or just the metal surround?I'm not sure whether you're aware, but a major road scheme drawn up by residents mobilised by ICG Chair and street rep David Freeman has been approved by Area Committee and should be in place in the not too distant future.  However if this is just a question of doing something about the metal surround then I can see no good reason to wait.Could you give me some more info on this please Jim?
