30mph on A4 - Guy’s blog

Great idea to reduce the speed limit to 30.  How about calling it a people zone and running the 30 mph from Lampton school through. Brentford?  So many schools, businesses, houses, stations, bus routes, football stadiums, hospitals in such a short distance, all cut off by the 6 lanes and 40 mph.Sarah x

The problem with the EU-wide speed limiter is that it is predicated on very accurate GPS data from the Galileo global navigation satellite system (GNSS)This raises an issue as the UK have been excluded from any developments on the GNSS due to our impending withdrawl from the EU.The EU speed limiter proposals do NOT include data logging as standard so your insurance company will be none the wiser.

Yes but your insurance company will have the data from the recorder also to be fitted and see that you exceeded the speed limit. While not being able to issue a fine they will however put up your insurance this is the purpose of the date recorder. They will also look at your acceleration rates and adjust the premiums accordingly. They do this at present with a lot of younger drivers. If you use your car at night preminums increase as well.

Yes, but the new speed limiter, I already have the technology to read speed cameras on my Ford, will not actually limit the speed and can be over-ridden by simply pressing the accelerator.

From 2022 all new cars will be limted in speed in any case.

What, and increase already dreadful pollution levels by having cars travelling in less than the optimum gear?Inefficient gearing = more pollution and we can't change 30 million gearboxes overnight.What is needed is a far higher budget for roads policing and the current limits to be enforced rigidly.
