Red Lion pub

Can someone please tell me the location of this pub? It is shown on a site of pubs in Brentford but I cannot place it. It looks like the pub close to Brentford station which I think was the Kings Arms. The address is listed as High Street, Brentford. Thanks.

AudreyWe heard many reasons why the Dual Carriageway didn’t go ahead. After the opening of the new red lion I asked the same question while we were standing right next to brand new, but very short bit of new road.The reason give then, the local authority had realised that they had a big problem getting the new road passed the cannel and train bridges at the far end of the High Street.But it seems very strange that this was only noticed after a lot of properties were knocked down along the High Street to make way for it.The local authorities involved at the time were The Brentford and Chiswick Council and the Greater London Council It looks like the Red Lion Pub has been included on that website by mistake, but out of shear devilment I rang the phone number listed, which is not recognised.My wife said, what would you have done if someone had pick the phone up and greeted me with “Hello Red Lion Brentford” I think my hair would have stood on end while I legged it. :-)

From the Half Acre there’s the Beehive PH. Then just after, at 232 High Street was The Feathers, (about where the County Court is now, St Paul’s Road) the Red Lion at 318 High St, then The Bull at 350 High St, (Pottery Road). And last, the Barge Aground at 362 High St. (Distillery Road)

AudreyThe New Red Lion was built between 1962 and 1964.The Gas Works was also being pulled down at the same time as we were building the new red lion.The Old Red Lion stood on the opposite corner of Ealing Road and Brentford High Street where new flats have been built on the same land on the corner that juts out at the lights..The other pubs were on the left travelling along the High Street towards Kew Bridge.I’ll have a look at the Kelly’s directory to see if I can locate them for you.

Paul - When was this "new" Red Lion built? Was the original on the other side of Ealing Road, right on the corner of Ealing Road and High Street? Where were these other pubs you mention? Any pictures anyone?

Hi PhilI was on the building of the new Red Lion, which I believe was built out of compensation for the other Fullers pubs that had to be pulled down (the Old Red Lion, The Bull, The Feathers, The Barge Aground), to make way for the new dual carriageway that didn’t get built.

Hello Audrey, As Phil says ..it is the Kings Arms, located in Station Road? between the junction with Glenhurst Road and Layton Road...near the Station...basically alongside Boston Manor Road.It does have an intersting website somewhere ..with views of the bar areas and the Hotel facilities too..The rooms looked very smart and presenatbleIn addition there was a recent Topic/thread on the Forum..about a month back ..called "Brentford Station Pub" mentioning its early closing times  and the Anstys.

AudreyThat is indeed the Kings Arms which, as you say, is situated near to Brentford station.The Red Lion was an excellent music venue on the junction of Brentford High Street and Ealing Road.  They knocked it down in the early 1990s and, just to rub our noses in it, built a drive-through McDonald's on the site.
