Morrisons Site - new owners

Please read today's headline story.  Essential Living has now sold the Morrisons site to a company called L&Q.  They are hosting a consultation "to understand local views and priorities. This will be held at St Paul’s Church Hall on Wednesday 29th May from 4pm to 8pm."  Not much notice or time to get to see their proposals before the submission of their new planning application, which say will offer "more  affordable homes alongside an improved supermarket."  L&Q "understand that this is an important site for Brentford, and it’s important that we get this right both during and after construction. We look forward to working with our neighbours as we refine our ideas, creating a community focused development which will benefit new and existing residents.”Who writes this guff?  When will it all end.....

No doubt you'll be coming along to the consultation event, Raymond, giving your trenchant views and listening to what's actually proposed rather than whatever you're imagining.The public exhibition will be Wed 29th at ST Paul's church.By the way, I believe 150-170 of the spaces in the new car park opposite will be for public use.

Seem to recall this notion of the site being sold on when this was at the first planning was dismissed by the experts and councillors as "pure  nonsense"It's getting rather tiresome that the only reality is becoming the "Pure Nonsense" scenario.No doubt the Big and bright new L&Q development will be justified by the overheight car park of ghastly architectural proportions and setting the brutalesque tone for Future Brentford.So as the councillors who voted permission through on the basis that this was a "wonderful opportunity for easy low cost rental housing" are now proven to be of unsound judgement, will same councillors be voting for more unsound proposals?No mention of an adequate car park for the Supermarket or if it will be a free car park and the other new carbuncle park will not, by the way, be accessible for any public use.Cllr Curran really ought to come clean on his rather too clandestine involvements with developers and his spectacular gaffes in judgement

I've no idea what they paid for the site. They are a housing association and, whilst housing associations are not quite what they used to be they have a more community-minded approach than straight commercial developers. I think L&Q have a decent reputation.

The only good sign is L+Q provide hundreds id not thousands of genuinely affordable housing each year though mainly East london

I suspect as L&Q have reportedly paid £26 million for the site(previous owners paid £16 million)the blocks of flats  will have to be many stories higher than the original approved of 8/9 to make it pay for L&Q.

"the area will become a wind tunnel"  Fully agree, I was just about to post this.    Brentford will hardly be a destination place to visit to enjoy river views - unless you're one of the wealthy bods owning or renting a flat on the shore of course

Half term too!Beginning to wonder if we will even see daylight on the High Street with so many high rise buildings buildings on both sides. Certainly won't be any outdoor seating areas in the sunshine.Let's hope a chemist moves in, we'll need access to a regular supplier of vitamin D supplements.

Are they genuine in their desire to involve local residents with only a 4 hr window for this meeting when this is a decision that will affect residents for years to come? And if people don't read this site , how are they to know about it? Are they genuine,or is it more lip service drivel from shysters? Answers on a postcard please..
