London 2012

I would like to say how proud I am of our “bid team” at their immense personal self sacrifice; I mean it must be hard to travel so far in business class to such a rundown place as Singapore only to be restricted to the most basic of 5 star accommodations. And to have paid for this out of their own pockets (along with all the other council tax payers in London) shows just how committed they are to their cause. Well done chaps! Now then, let’s see how much over the £4,000,000,000 budget we can get this project.

On top of this you can imagine the Transport Unions are already planning their strike action leading up to the games to secure their place as the only people in London with a high enough income to buy tickets!

Have to agree Simon. I think it's as much about ego massage for the likes of Ken and Tony in particular.Why should we have to wait for an Olympics to have transport and infrastructure improved?We are obviously not worthy without the games...I suppose it'll be like a World Cup too, in terms of who is allowed to get tickets for the most sought after events.If you,as a non-corporate,non-v.i.p ordinary punter want tickets for the first heats of the synchronise swimming or the egg and spoon race,there will be tickets -a -plenty. Should you want to see the interesting stages of the 800m/1500m/100m etc. you will probably find that your ticket comes with a night in a 3/4 star hotel with coach to and from venue,lunch thrown in all for about £800.We must remember,like it or not, our job is to pay for it all and to watch it on telly.

oh i completely agree! I think it will cost us ALOT more. When do they ever stick to a budget. Like a radio DJ said- Blair said that if we got the games, builders would start work within 48 hours. So i guess they were on a very nice retainer as builders dont sit around in case they get a job do they!

I can see both points of view. I was a little anti olympics at first but ive come round to the idea for the most part. I believe i heard on the news that it will cost on average of 38p per week per person on our council tax bills.

When it comes to public funded projects like this yes I am cynical. I give you the Millenium Dome as a prime example.

I too hate to be a wet blanket particularly with all the euphoria that is currently being displayed about the Olympics coming to London BUT I am concerned about how much this is going to cost ME in extra council tax etc., and can someone tell me exactly how I will benefit.  I do not own any sort of a business and I work for solicitors so my employers are unlikely to see an increase in turnover as a result, public transport may be improved but it will certainly be at a cost to the regular users.  The east end may see a much needed regeneration but if it's anything like the Brentford regeneration it will just result in overpriced boxes.  My understanding is that most countries that have held the Olympics in the recent past are still paying for them.  I am probably looking at this too simplistically but I can only see the additional cost to Londoners with little if any benefit.
