Catherine Wheel Road

A bit late to this so sorry if it's been discussed already further down the stack. It just occurred to me this past week (because there's a sign to that effect) that Catherine Wheel Road is now a private road, owned presumably by Hounslow Council's favourite carpetbaggers, Ballymore. How did that happen? I realise Hounslow probably has the law on its side but that doesn't make it right. It's not their road to flog, surely? It belongs to Brentford, or rather, it did once. Disgraceful.

If you study the planning documents Catherine Wheel Road and Dock Road will be 2 of about 6 passages between the High Street and the river/canal - the others known as 'yards' in deference to their historical prevalence.The planning documents are not easy to penetrate but I'll happily email a pdf or two of the most interesting documents to anyone who PMs or emails me a request.

Yes it is stopped up. This would have had to be signed off by Mayor of London. I believe the Ballymore plans include works to the roads for utilities, landscaping etc but when development is finished the roads will be “unstoppered” as Jennifer put it previously.

Once the building work has finished down there, perhaps Catherine Wheel Road will be "Unstoppered" by LBH and returned for the public use again.

Council has statutory power to issue a stopping up order under Town and Country Planning Act. Catherine Wheel Road is classified as "STOPPING UP ORDER" on the highways register.Not quite sure why that's "disgraceful". It's standard procedure for development...although i'm aware there's a tendency for uproar at every minute element of Ballymores plans...
