Lifts at Brentford Station

Is anyone else Fed up with lifts still out of action at station, still waiting for parts according to clerk in booking hall feel so sorry for people with luggage, or transferring from one side to the other.Pull your finger out network rail and south western get it fixed once and for all, not every week as usually is the case.

Well lucky you being paid overtime!  I was in management and on more than one occasion I and my fellow managers worked ALL NIGHT until 6 am shifting stuff about to get a store open in time for the local mayor to cut the blue ribbon across the entrance.  This happened in Nottingham, then The Hague, followed by Brussels and finally Northampton!  Those were the days but we were a happy band.  The same thing applied when I worked for a big American Company, few of the Yanks stayed late, all the Europeans did though setting up an exhibition in New York.

As long as you are paid he going rate for the extra time involved, I would work on or arrive early.Through you working life, if you have a decent employer that treats their staff reasonably well, unsocial working hours even's out over time.

Stopping a little longer to finish the job. This makes for lazy management who knows the workers will always help out. In some countries now if for example your manager phones you to ask if you could come in early or something similar in your personal time you can report him and action will be taken by the law.

Spare parts have to be sourced from whichever overseas company makes them.  It seems to have become a growing problem.  Not many years ago I remember a problem because the spare parts manufacturers had had a fire and a new provider of spare parts had to be found.  Strict insurance regulations will keep them out of service.It has made me think about the design of buildings.  If you can have two lifts - do- and design so you have access to the second lift when the first is out of order!

and whose fault is that - sounds like a case of the blind leading the blind!  Long gone are the days when any workman was proud to do a good job.  That wasn't just the actual workman but also the managers, even the typists and secretaries, we all wanted to do the very best we could even if it involved staying a little longer to finish the job.

They are not old lifts. They are designed for a service life of 50 to 60 years.It's poor standards and poor overseeing of installation and maintenance.

It is hard to get parts for old lifts. Companies prefer to carry out a new installation.
