I'm grateful to Sally, the Brentford and Chiswick Times reporter, for reminding us of Ken Livingstone's planned 2 minutes silence today...to pay our respects to those affected in last Thursday's London Bomb. Her posting gave us an opportunity not to miss the occasion. My son works in Uxbridge Road, Ealing..and told me that the area around the Fire Station was just an amazing sight as the two minutes silence was observed. There were many hundreds of office workers on the pavements, three buses had halted at the kerbside, and 99% of cars stopped..with occupants staying in their vehicles. The Fireman were apparently lined up in front of their Station and were drilled to stand to attention and stand at ease at the appropriate moment. This immaculate display heralded the Ealing response."I've never anything like it" my son said..and he was obviously moved by the respect shown. He had expected to be the only one on the pavement ..but instead there were "thousands"Of course a couple of cars crept by..and a drill on building site continued its noise.Locally.. here in North Isleworth...no residents came to the front of over 50 homes I could see. There was only I and a lone motorist up the road who had pulled over..got out of his car..and stood on the pavement. Hope he saw me. Meanwhile..more than twenty cars drove past..getting on with their lives...perhaps ignorant of Sally's helpful message.Any other local reports?
