Car repairs

Just had letter from LBH saying they’ve had complaints about cars being serviced on the public highway in New Rd. It does make it clear that you can’t run a business like that in the street, but doesn’t really go into details about what a mechanically minded resident is allowed to get away with.A more rational approach might have been for an officer to have a quiet word with the chap who does conduct roadside repairs, pointing out the damage he’s doing to middle class sensibilities.

In the interest of fairness, having had a conversation with a neighbour, it turns out this chap is attempting to make some cash by repairing cars in the street. Shouldn’t the council be doing some actual enforcement, instead of just a letter to everyone.

I wonder if same types complain about cables for electric cars trailing the pavements day and night with no due consideration for safety also get similar letters ?And that is a bye-law offence.

You can change a wheel, brake shoes, an engine or gearbox in the street  or a cartwheel or indeed feed a horse or anything on a bicycle, As long as any mess is cleared away.  It's only when run as a business.  It goes way back to the horse and cart days and obviously when motor vehicles needed constant attention.No different to doing building maintenance on your home.If they are that bothered then maybe they would like to look at their own responsibilities and come and clear the slippery months old mush rotted leaves from the summer tree windfall that now blocks up gully and drains that is not just messy but dangerous.
