The Brentford Musical Museum  pictures and news?

Stopping my car opposite that yellow coloured Jet Petrol Station..as you travel from from Kew bridge towards the start of Brentford..I was aware that this was the Gateway to a place that we've always wanted to be proud of.But the mash mash of different architectural styles in view was not pleasant to observe. The yellow Petrol Station, high rise Haverfield Estate, a row of Victoria houses and chimney pots, the Chinese Restaurant..the old BT building..now flats..the old pub..the office furniture place etc etc..and then the new Musical Museumand the line of incompatible buildings stretching to Ealing road..ending with the Travel Lodge Hotel and Macdonalds. What a pity!However, we wish the new Museum well..Its due to open early in 2007..less than 18 months time.

The Council wanted finer detail on the building, eh?.Looks pretty anonymous and featureless,definitely from the banal school of architecture.Hope the interior lives up to your description of what it will be, Jim.

Fortunately, I turned up Saturday afternoon to take these pictures  just the the Museum's Chairman Mr Michael Rydel was there....locking up!He was kind enough to take me on a tour of the interior...and he explained the location of the various facilities..when they are installed.At present the inside is bare..but each level of flooring is in...awaiting the installation of a lift, walls, toilet facilities, catering areas, a foyer, an auditorium with seating and an orchestra pit..and a site for the Organ. There will be exhibition areas, no doubt a library, facilities for local artists to dispay their work..and a section to house part of the LAYTON  COLLECTION.  Mr Rydel explained that some 18 months work was still to do before opening..

Those coloured pipings at the "front" of the building are very attractive in my view..a feature...and to my surprise I learnt today that they will be lite up.  Other side panels will feature perhaps banners or flags relating to events taking place. At the foot of the building..all around..is a terracotta finish. The Local Council were apparently keen to initiate some finer detail on the outside of the building..including the roof overhang..and more windows. (not that more windows were wanted by the occupants!)Once the fencing is down parking lots and vegetation will be on view!
