Osterley Park

Thinking of having a wander in Osterley Park this weekend.... Apart from a nice walk is there anything to see? Never been before...

In the gardens at the back of the house there is a little island in the lake. If you look closely you will see some steps going down a sort of tunnel to enable people to board boats in private. Also admire the splendid summer house.

Membership is a great idea as the car park is a fixed rate and the gardens behind the house are chargeable, not to mention the house.  Take defrosted frozen peas to feed the swans and ducks.... ;) x

The garden is National Trust also so you would have to pay if not a member - just in case you don't know.Otherwise, there are some grounds to wander around, a view of the house, the cafe, the National Trust shop and no doubt a few other bits and bobs.

The house is partly open at the moment for the ‘Treasures of Osterley’ exhibition.

Being winter the garden will not be at their best but are still worth a look.The lake is a nice gentle stroll and the grounds contain some fascinating history including (over towards Windmill Lane) the 'target wall' where the very first Home Guard units trained in WWII.The House reopens in late February but there are still exhibitions in the outbuildings.

I just had a look at the website and it says the house is closed. The gardens open though so think I will have a look at that :)
