Farming in Isleworth today: Nip along to see the harvester  in action..

Osterley Park is such a delight...and easy to visit by catching the H28 bus!! to the top of Thornbury Road.Just inside the Park's Main Gates..and wandering along the tree-lined avenue..you can view the "Scrattage field" of horses and perhaps ponies on the left..and see the farm field on the right..through medieval iron railings.Cereal is grown in the field..and whilst the recent heavy rain has given the upright growths a bit of a battering..the recent sunshine has raised most of the yield upright again.Today, the big harvester machine has arrived and has started its annual job of cutting, bailing and gathering the harvest. Only three miles from Brentford High Street..amazing. Take the kids along!!  H28!

The recent bailing of the cut cereal (barley?) had been delayed for a week because of the damp weather...but now it has been done. The bailing machine has inished it's work.Yesterday the remaining scattered bails were loaded up and taken away.And now flocks of Canadian Geese have arrived..and they seem to munch away all day in the Osterely Park (east field)..and then fly away in spectacular formation in early evening to "somewhere"..making a lot of noise on their travels!

It's the Farmer's son who is driving tractor. By the way the tomatoes on sale at the Farm Shop were so tasty..I've eaten three already today! (£1 for a bag of 7 good sized tomatoes..is that reasonable?)(thats over two shillings and sixpence for each one in old money!)

So the field's crop..some sort of cereal..has been chopped down by the Harvester..(day 1 and 2)and today was the turn of the tractor and bailer.  They don't start work till the afternoons because of the "hew" in the mornings. So the tractor's activity zig-zagging up and down the field...and the production of bails is what was on view today.

Now Jim, doesn't matter the weather, with this digital stuff you can fix anything!!!!  Auto fix is great. Do you shoot on "auto" or "programmed"?Have you taken any videos yet? That is what we need to try on here, 30 second videos!! What a challenge...

Hello Audrey..Yes Pay-pal sorted...I had erroneously used a duff credit card of mine!!So: Freeimage hosting..is working well.The camera didn't do too well today..maybe the weather was just a bit gloomy.

Gerry: I think that that picture of the harvester etc ..was so large that your computer felt it was being asked to give birth to a 20lb baby..and it was too much to ask. Audrey reduced the picture to manageable size..thank goodness!In the meantime..this is what most young children remember Osterley park for.. going to feed the ducks. Your picture came out a little big Jim. How did you manage to get IMGHosting to let you do that!!! I straightened & cropped your picture a tiny bit then resized it. Hopefully it will look good. Do you have your camera set to the "auto" mode? What do you think of the video on your camera?

Sorry about the quality of this snap..hanging on the wall is not easy at my age. This Canon Ixus 500 sometimes produces dark pictures..so perhaps I should do the job properly and read the instruction booklet.The Harvester driver has has now cut all the yield of cereal down...two days work.  Soon the bailing machinery will arrive to bundle it all up.
