I’ve heard that the demolition of Griffin Park will start as soon as the football season ends.

Thanks Neil, wise decision TBh as the place was never going to make money except on match days and it was 'borderline' then,

They got rid of it a few years ago.

I thought that Brentford themselves had taken on the freehold and licence of the PR.

The Griffin and the New Inn should be fine, I do hope The Brook survives as well. The Princess Royal is very unlikely to survive and is destined to be a small supermarket. Depends on Fullers though and Brewery chains are often reluctant to surrender their licence....

Jim, there must somewhere l don't think people have thought about this part of the Brentford skyline something l see all the time from my garden and will really miss,on a winter night when a game is,on.

I'm not aware of any planning applications and there are none listed on the LBH planning portal that I can see.I too have heard rumours, but change of use from a pub to a shop is not a straightforward matter and I'd expect it to be properly debated, probably at planning committee.

Griffin food is fantastic.I'd like to see more details of the rumour about the conversion of The Princess Royal into a shop. I've not seen any planning applications anywhere.

Gerhard has transformed the food at The Griffin but the beers were always well kept there. Ralph kept the best pint of 'Pride' in Brentford and this was second only to the Pride at the Grapevine bar at Questors which is superb.

The food in The Griffin is absolutely superb. Gerhard is a genius and his beers are well kept to. !

The Princess Royal will be a 'goldmine' for whichever operator turns it into a local supermarket especially when the GP redevelopment is completed.
Our Guy inside, has a contact who has said they aren’t aware of a capsule under the old pitch but they will check with the Historians.A capsule can’t be placed under the new pitch as it has been laid! It is possible one could be installed in the new building.Having been brought up under the guidance of Biddy Baxter, I was very sad to read the Blue Peter teams time capsule was dug up and found to have been contaminated by water. So above ground might be a safer place if one is to be put together.Maybe the archive people over in Kew could advise about safe preservation?

Yes the Griffin will survive as will The Brook. The New Inn has applied for extentions to the opening hours which have been rejected by locals and the three councillors. The Princess Royal will close for good in May. I understand one of the local big supermarkets are turning into a 'local'.

I wonder what is planned for some of the bits and pieces of the Bees' heritage at Griffin Park? For example this photo of the turnstiles is from Karen Reader's wonderful Facebook site - Brentford Thru My Lens:https://m.facebook.com/brentfordthrumylens/photos/a.1672069309570850/2226182244159551/?type=3&source=54I thought that the floodlight pylons would improve the appearance of the Dock Road car park - one on each corner. Unfortunately the pylons do not seem to be tall enough to reach over the top of that unfortunate edifice.

Will they lay one at the new ground?
Sarah Felstead ● 2006d
The Griffin will survive as the food is excellent, as to the others I really don't know, they will definitely all miss the match day income.
N V Brooks ● 2006d
How do you think the pubs will fare once the ground has gone from Griffin Park?
Anne England ● 2006d
There was a long-held 'belief' that something was buried under the centre circle. I doubt it, as the pitch has been deeply excavated and relaid a number of times and anything buried would probably have been dug up long ago. What is 'buried' there are the memories of the tens of thousands who have supported the Bees since the ground was opened in 1904. My heart is dreadfully sad to see it go, my head knows that it is no longer fit for purpose.
I wonder, did they lay a time capsule when building the original ground?
The Royal Oak stand in its 'glory days'.
N V Brooks ● 2007d
Nothing surprising in that. As soon as the new stadium receives its safety certificate Griffin Park (which I first attended in 1960) will be redundant. I'll be sad to see it go (I still have the memories) but as football is now far more about business than the 'working man's game' I guess that money talks and talks very loudly. GP was never the same after the Brook Road terrace was demolished.
