Many thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Recent posts have raised a number of important issues and we will try to address them:1) Brentford FC - Brentford Voice exchanged several emails but we did not receive a fruitful response. We followed this up last year with a formal letter to all those we could think of including the Chairman, the Vice-Chairman, the owner, the managing director, Ecoworld (the developers), and all the supporters' organisations. We did not receive a reply to any of those letters but we could try again. In terms of how well the Fountain would fit, in design terms, with a modern development we wonder how easily a big bit of Victorian Gothic could be incorporated?2) The cost - our working estimate is £200,000 and this is based on three estimates for the entire job from separate contractors plus a contingency allowance. The Fountain weighs about 45 tons and the main cost items are site preparation to gain access to the existing site, dismantling, making good, transport, repair, cleaning, access to the new site, foundations, installation of water and electricity connections, and reassembly. The final cost, following formal tender, may well be less but it could be more.A particular sticking point may be the "sustainability" of the project: that is the ongoing costs of items such as water and electricity bills, cleaning, repairs, and insurances. Brentford Voice has, without success, approached several bodies who may be able to help in this regard including the Thames Water Authority and the Greater London Authority. Grants from sources such as the Heritage Lottery Fund are generally only available for initial capital costs.3) War Memorials - Brentford Voice did consider approaching the Traders' Association at Western International Market but, having finally received agreement to take away the Fountain, we didn't want to ride our luck. In the relatively recent past the traders constructed a little garden which houses the war memorials. There are other Brentford-related war memorials that are not at Brentford Library. Inside Brentford Baths there should still be a handsome memorial to members of Brentford Swimming Club. A memorial, to former employees, in the Nat West bank in the High Street was removed to the Chiswick branch of the Nat West before our bank was demolished. A memorial at Griffin Park, to those associated with the football club, will presumably be moved to the new stadium. Please keep your comments and questions flowing - they are invaluable.
