New Homes

Just read one in ten new homes built in England are built in high risk areas. With the present floods find this hard to believe.

The BBC reported (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-europe-26302176/flood-proof-homes-the-dutch-way) that they are about 20% more expensive to build, but bear in mind that the land value makes up a significant part of the cost of a home, so the total property price would be less than 20% (for example 10% if the land value is half the property value). This is further offset by much reduced insurance and cleanup costs. With that in mind it seems quite sensible and possible to follow their example.

The Dutch have always been ahead of us and yes we should learn from them. Salvage at sea is another function where they excel. If you notice its always the Dutch that are called for big jobs. Brittania rules the waves!!!!!

What they do have are houses that actually 'float' as the tide rises - I suspect they are also very expensive to construct. But surely they are the people we should be learning from?

No idea.I assume they have stairs to access the houses,pretty pointless otherwise.

Don't they take more governmental responsibility for safe and sensible housing and infrastructure in Holland?

They build houses on stilts in some countries,Holland for one.

Huge amount of new homes have no insurance. Worse still they do not qualify under the government scheme as they were recently built.

On the TV last night they reported that a developer was appealing against a local council's decision not to allow planning permission for 600 new houses on a flood plain area. What's the betting they get their way in the end - bloody ridiculous.
