NHS IVF

The NHS oldest IVF clinic is at risk as services put out to tender. See todays report in the Guardian. Somebody tell me this is not true. The PPE scandel rages on. Where are the 84 tons of PPE from Turkey due yesterday? I recall those famous words THE NHS IS SAFE IN OUR HANDS. It seems the front line staff are not.

This is certainly one place where the use of some plastic followed by incineration to make energy from waste is obviously a good idea until anything better is proved to be found.  Stainless steel was always used and cleaned snd sterilised.  There are also the cardboard "hats" moulded in the same material as egg-boxes to be sick in.  What would we do without all that plastic tubing and all those catheter bags.  (Although I heard a consultant urologist complaining that the design of these needed updating as it hadn't been for do many years.  Also there are risks reusing something that is designed to be single use.). We shouldn't depend so much on antibiotics for ehen things go wrong.

Don't forget that much of the NHS supply changes was implemented by the Blair/ Brown govt PPP policies. And it was dogged by shortages in the 1990s.Another problem is procurement and Trust managers were rejecting protection equipment because it did not meet specification policies for fully recyclable compliant plastics which some  managements would not suspend.Virtually everything in hospitals and medical treatment is plastic and has been for a very long time now. Antibacterial plastic is an innovation that has transformed hospitals medical and surgical treatments and we all have benefited from that.Much PPE is not yet fully recyclable compliant, but suspending Climate emergency policies were not waived by many procurement mandarins and not reported to ministers or those who could overrule until way too late.Not much mentioned about vital equipment being removed from Ealing Hospital rendering it much reduced in its capabilities.Not a Peep from Julian Bell about that. Yet he knows.

Lots of bits of the NHS have been privatised.  That includes supplies.
