We have had three families of sparrows in our garden this year. This baby took his first flight last Tuesday.

Sparrow seem to be a rarity these days...even the robins have moved on. Maybe its those large, pretty, attractive, colourful, dominating and bossy birds ..the magpies...who have scared them off.

Liz - you could try a sparrow colony, nesting box. We bought one from http://www.gardenbird.com/index.htm and added a wire cage to the front to stop the larger birds from picking out the babies. We have seen more sparrows this year, which may be why the sparrow hawk is looking so healthy!

You lucky person, I've hardly noticed any this year. I used to get lots of birds in the garden but they have declined over the last 10 years. I even had blackbirds nesting in my evergreen clematis. Maybe you could send a few in our direction! (York Road)
