Herd Immunity
Do people have some sort of averse reaction to this term? OK, let's call it community immunity. If we don't develop community immunity by next winter, and the people are still gripped by the same fear as is apparent now, and the government continues to fail to give leadership, then there will be an increase in WuFlu deaths and we'll be back to lock down. By this time the economy will be in tatters with millions of unemployed, increased poverty, people dying of untreated conditions and widespread social disorder. Alternatively we get younger people back to school and work, reduce the ridiculous 2 metre rule to 1 metre, protect the vulnerable and continue to ramp up testing.Yesterday's announcements seem to be a tentative move in that direction, but I worry that they will turn out to be insufficient and too slow. And don't forget the "science" that informed change of policy in March has been thoroughly discredited.
