Care homes are increasingly part of privately owned chains with remote corporate owners, and as such should be responsible for providing their own PPE and staffing, rather than expecting local or national government to bale them out when things get tricky. I gather that when the virus outbreak became serious, Ealing Council told their own care homes to stop taking new residents to stop the spread, but had no control over private homes in the Borough. Let's hope that one good thing to come out of this crisis will be a properly funded, publicly owned, National Care Service, integrated with our National Health Service.
