Brentford Carnival/Festival 4th sept  12-5pm boston manor park

Carnival time in the park on September 4th The summer might be nearly over for another year but there's still one big event to look forward to - the Carnival in Boston Manor Park.Taking place on Sunday September 4th between 12 midday and 5pm, the carnival has plenty to enjoy for all the family, with sports, music, food and much much more.For Sports fans there's football coaching from Brentford Football Club, tennis coaching on the park's tennis courts and a visit from the English Cricket Board Roadshow. Music fans will enjoy a variety of acts including a special performance by Brentford's unique band Slipper, DJ Douglas Benford, the Brian Stephenson Jazz Band and folksters Stringfellows.and  pop/rock band Red Eye Banquet. some of  the music will be pedal-powered by our special cycle-cum-generator.Goddards Brentford will be supplying a 24ft lorry for the other bands.If you're feeling creative then a local graffiti artist will be hosting a special workshop, there'll be children's dance and drama workshops and there'll be face painting, nail painting and henna hand painting. The CIP playteam will be on hand to use up any spare energy your children may have.Bargain hunters will enjoy the car boot sale, the charity tombola stalls and locally produced arts and crafts on sale.To recover, there'll be a beer tent and a Food Court featuring food from around the country and around the world, courtesy of Brentford Farmers Market.If you want to take part in the carnival by holding a stall or taking part in the Car Boot Sale, it's not too late. There will be a follow-up this week. Hopefully it will include reference to the tea rooms which don't exsist at present and secondly to report on how much money was made.Keeping on the Boston Manor theme Open House is this weekend and whilst we (the Friends) will not be down there on Saturday we will be there on Sunday.  Anybody fancy serving teas to help us out?  Please let me know.  Cheers.

At last, 6 days on, I have been able to surface from last Sundays Brentford Festival and have read the comments given by many with interst.  The Events committee are going to meet on Thursday evening to discuss the event and to see how we can improve on it.  (Could that be possible?).  My own mail bag certainly indicates that residents on both sides of the border would welcome another event, in the same location next year.  I am delighted with the praise we have been receiving but promise not to let it go to our heads.  Clearing-up the next morning I was impressed on just how little litter was scattered around but the recycling unit might think differently as WE THE PUBLIC did not manage to get the rubbish into the right bins ........bigger lables next time!I do not have a final figure for sums raised yet as I am still waiting for the bill from the brewry (which will be soon) and also we didn't have enough manpower to run the raffle.  We have some wonderful donations from local businesses which we will be taking to an event at Turnham Green to raffle off (WILL THE BRENTFORD FESTIVAL TEAM SEE YOU THERE?) on Saturday.  I will report back as soon as I have this information.  Thanks for coming.

Isn't it a little sad that following this successful eventwhich attracted over 2000 people and more...that only some half-dozen people in the Community have been able to lodge their appreciation on this Forum.None the less the few messages posted here on this thread will have been much cherished by those involved.

DebbieYou deserve a big pat on the back for your enthusiastic messages on this Forum and now you can reflect on a successful day.  It was good to see a report on the frontpage of this website acknowledging Linda Massey's efforts and others too no doubt.Look forward to seeing more photos..and wasn't it great giving Boston Manor Park some publicity and a boost. When we think of Brentford we can forget about the ugly views at the back of the Waterman's Art Centre..and think instead of the delights of Boston Manor.

hi jim and all who attended our Brentford Carnival/Festival it was very hard work all the running around and collecting donations im very tired today but it was well worth it.I raised £50 for the premature baby unit at west middlesex hosp doing the face painting so im happy with that. As all 3 of my babys were in the unit.We do hope to acheive this again next year and years to come in different parks around Brentford. Next year we are hoping to have the parade with floats that all the companys can be involved in we have already started getting names in of people who want to have a float and costumes for next year. I have also been offered a place to hold a party to raise money for the baby unit in Brentford so i will be organizing a fancy dress party very soon i will post this as soon as i have set the date.thanks jim for posting the photos i also had my photographer from brentford take 700 photos for me i will try to post some soon.all the best to all of youDebbie xxxxxxxx

What a wonderful afternoon! We were absolutely amazed at the number of visiters to the Acton Brentford & Chiswick Scout Council stand both young and old and including my old friend Jim Lawes, a face I haven't seen for many a year. As a first in Boston Manor, let's hope it stays there (I aasume there will be another one next year). I actually met a Brentford couple who didn't even know the park existed!Well done to the organisers and see you next year!

yes, I thought it was fantastic; I got much too hot and only lasted two hours, but the mix of farmers market, info stalls of all types, lovely location, number of people etc made it the best Brentford festival EVER and I have been involved with a fair few of them in the past. It was a brilliant success and I hope there'll be another one next year!

There was a lot of music in that big tent,a cafe.and other food stalls, a Police stall, a Scout Stall, an Army cadet Stall, a local Councillors stall, Face painting stall, Car boot and antique stalls, Handmade soap stalls, A Fire Engine and a Police Car, a tapestry stall, and a hospital charity stall, Concorde photographs stall. Cricket and Football too somewhere. Table tennis..and a Moroccan food stall. Very impressive effort by the organisers..oh yes and the Soul inthe City people were there too..and others.Do you have a story about today?and then down the hill..

Lynn; As you say it was brilliant.  To see so many people turn out for a Brentford event..other than at Griffin Park..was amazing.  One often feels sad about Brentford when the Saturday Farmers Market struggles..but today was memorable.The Austrian Hot Dog stall couple are happy souls..and their cheese and sausage hot dog are yummy.The Tea Pot roundabout raised a smile..and was popular.Historic Boston Manor House, must have enjoyed seeing so many visitors to its grounds. The House is a 300-400 year old gem.

(aren't I boring!)This lady,Rima,displayed her unique range of illustrations and prints and added to the colourful sights to be enjoyed.Meanwhile , in the shade of the trees, children enjoyed the small fairground. (Remember a larger one of these next to Kew Bridge in the 1950's?)The expansive grass areas and trees and pathways allowed visitors to walk their feet off. It's an ideal location for evants of this kind.

That padded out Bouncy Bee is in fact an attractive  Forum reader! The "BACK THE BEES" stall was one of many supporting local clubs,societies and activities. It really was a well attended event.There was a crowd of people in one distant corner..peering at something moving and making a noise .....I had to rush over there!Then there were the Police horses...

Linda: There were so many people at Boston Manor Park today...several thousands easily over the five hours..that its not surprising I missed seeing you clicking away.Well done to all the organisers. It was a tremendous sight for them to see so many people...and all those stalls and attractions too. A great Community event..and it seemed to cover the whole Park.  I hope many people say a few words ..or more ..on this website...in appreciation to those who had the forethought and "go" to get it off the ground.At the south end of the Park ,the metalwork of the M4 supports added a striking backdrop.In one of the marquees the lady in red caught my eye...the power for the amplifiers was harnessed by the two gentlemen peddling away in their bicycles!Meanwhile, personal massages in the open air were available for £5!

DebbieCan't find a posting for the festival on the Ealing or Chiswick website - wouldn't it be worth doing one on each?  (particularly Ealing with the park being on the Brentford/Ealing borders).  Just a thought!
