Post Brexit No Deal Tariffs

I have just read a piece from the BRC saying that in the case of a no deal tariffs will be applied to imported food. OK but one of the foods quoted was CHEDDAR CHEESE with a 57% tariff. I thought Cheddar was a British cheese. Surely some cheddar is produced in the UK. So how will the price rise be applied in the shops? To all cheddar thus boosting the profits of the retailers?

You are correct about Australia, no increases.

They may, but the problem is they will have to go through foreign banks and be subject to the current exchange rates in future, instead of being paid via a British bank account.

AFAIK ex-pat pensioners do not receive inflation related increases on their UK pensions in Australia,unless things have changed in the last couple of years. My mother lived there for years and never received any increase.Whatever that case may be and especially since covid and its awful effect upon business and peoples' livelihoods,I will be buying home produced products wherever possible.

As far as I know, UK pensioners living in the EU will continue to get annual inflation rises.

Protected status will go on the 1st Jan 2021 I understand. We are already in violation of the enviroment law in that every river and lake in England is polluted above EU levels. I was really shocked by that.

You mention expat's pension. Expats in Austrailia do get rises unlike in the EU. And as you say the £ at 1.09. Everybody tells me that's good because it makes our exports cheaper, they dont say anything about the huge amount of food we import which is more expensive because of this.

Any retired 'ex-pats' are also going to feel a chill wind with British banks closing accounts. They are going to find that getting their pensions from here is going to cost in exchange rates! Just think of all these things that Bozza and Govie didn't mention when they were swanning around in that bus with the lies on the side. Ever been had?

Surely we incorporated all EU law into ours as a first step to leaving, which I assumed would include protected status. That law can then be repealed here, of course.

I read even with a trade deal post Brexit British made cars will face tarriffs because they use foreign made components. Especially electric cars because of the batteries. Remember when Boris mentioned batteries and how we would lead in manufacturing these. Well several manufactures have chosen the EU as a manufacturing base for them, especially Tesla who have chosen Germany as a manufacturing base because of Brexit.

The protected status finishes when we leave the EU. I was reading that Melton Mowbery are concerned as America are looking at producing Melton pies.

The cheese originates from the village of Cheddar in Somerset, south west England. Cheddar Gorge on the edge of the village contains a number of caves, which provided the ideal humidity and steady temperature for maturing the cheese. Cheddar cheese traditionally had to be made within 30 mi (48 km) of Wells Cathedral..So I wonder if the UK could technically do what French insist only sparkling wine from Champagne be called Champagne. Food for thought not nightmares. :)

Latvia, Canada, New Zealand and any other coutry that can use the cheddaring process.Around 25% of the Cheddar sold in the UK comes from the Republic of Ireland

Cheddaring is a process so there is lots of imported Cheddar cheese, much of it from......Latvia!I buy Welsh cheddar, so unless they are going to impose tarrifs for bringing it over the bridge, I'm not worried.
