Connexions cards - free travel for teens.

Am I right in thinking that holders of these cards can travel free on local buses?Do you know where I can look this up? I can't find the site which explains when the scheme starts and whether it includes tube travel as well.  My son’s old card has been replaced with one which has 'transport for London' on the reverse and the bus driver accepted it yesterday without charging him.

ooops! missed of the bit about ringing the contact number to be told that the deal isn't signed and sealed yet, which is possibly why there is no information available for 16-19's on the Web.  Was told that they would ring me back, and I was going to post after their call.

Hope you have the right form now, Lucy.  I haven't posted anything yet - because I haven't had a phone call!Son took his Connexions card with him this morning.  He asked the driver who seemed to know that a connexions card meant free travel - and did not charge!  Wheeeee!

Went to Chis PO to try and get a form for children's Oyster cards.  They'd run out.  They were only given 30 in the first place!  Apparently you have to complete the form, supply a photo and proof of child's age (passport), and then pay £5 to get the card to give free travel on buses and trams (not tubes).  So.. you now pay £5 for the free bus travel, whereas it used to be free to all holders of travel cards.  Not such a bargain after all.

Have just asked at the tube station about this free travel lark.  Apparently, it is just the buses that are free, not tubes.  Instead of tube season tickets children need to apply for children's oyster cards, filling in a form only available from main post offices.  These forms are not available from the tube staions, which seems stupid to me.  Why has there been no publicity about this change before the start of term?  Buses were free anyway to holders of children's and others' travelcards, so no change there.

you could try ringing 0870 000 2288 which is a helpline/customer services for connexions or e/m info@dfes.gsi.gov.uk the way I understand it that if your son is still at school and has one of those cards, travel is free-not sure about the tube/train

hello Sarah; I found some veryhelpful stuff on Transport for London Website it explains all about how under 16's can travel free and if your son is over 16 I expect you can find that info there as well. Sounds excellent - I think all the different schemes have been a bit confused until now,
