I agree Jim, I can't understand why the rescue operation is taking so long either, but when they mentioned on the news that the area affected is the size of the UK I suppose that puts it into some perspective. However, they knew it was coming (clearly they didn't realise just how bad it was going to be), but I would have thought they could made better rescue preparations than they appear to have. The conditions & suffering are unimaginable.
