Keith - the church was finally closed for worship in 1961. It was subsequently used briefly as a saleroom and for storage. In the late 1970s the actress Pamela Mandell unsuccessfully campaigned to have the church converted to a theatre and restaurant/cafe. (Pamela Mandell had roles in the films Superman II and Superman III.)By the 11th century there was a chapel on the site and the tower, built in the 15th century, is by far Brentford's oldest building. The main body of the church was rebuilt in the 1760s with further alterations in about 1889.Over recent decades various repairs have been carried out to the roof and it is still remarkably watertight. The interior of the church was adorned with a spectacular set of monuments which over the years were sold, loaned, stolen, or vandalised. One of the monuments has been found in Australia while another is in Hampstead. It would be good to return some of these to their intended resting place.
