New printer

I have just arrived at home with a new Epson Photo R300 to replace my hp deskjet, because I am sick of paying out for the ink cartridges.However, now I have studied the printer and the accompanying manual, etc., I feel I may have blundered.I don't like the idea of several cartridges of different colours, and they seem to concentrate too much on photographs, when my main use of the printer is texts.Please advice from one or two of our experts....help?  Have I made a booboo?  Should I take it back and stay with my hp deskjet?Any advice or comment would be appreciated.

Audrey & Jim,Thanks for your replies;  I feel a little better now!The manual concentrates so much on photographs, it put me off.  I still haven't 'unpacked' the Epson;  perhaps tomorrow.

Hello Ann. This looks like a fabulous printer if you are into photographs, cd's etc. However, as you are more interested in text printing I'd stay with the DeskJet. One of my printers is DeskJet 720C obviously quite old, it works like a charm though and it is very frugal with the ink. My other printer is much younger, a 3in1 which didn't last long; I keep it around for copying!

AnnI'm looking at April 2005's Which? Report which dealt with Inkjet and Laser printers...and in the price bracket up to £150 ..the Epsom R300 scored reasonable well.It seems that compared with an HP its better made,and cost of a coloured photo is cheaper.I have a Canon 965i...with six colour cartridges..and I replace them at those Economy Inkject places (Cartridge World etc)..and no problems.Hopefully others will respond too.
