No-one is saying that the current level of motorised transport in London is indefinitely sustainable. It clearly isn't. The problem is, the 'back of a fag packet' schemes implemented by 'Labour' councils with their noses buried in the Government's trough, are appallingly planned, clumsily and incompetently implemented, and undemocratically introduced with no comprehensive traffic surveys to establish what and where the actual issues are, and, crucially for many of us, no equalities impact assessment to establish what their effects are on the most vulnerable portions of the population. As if that were not bad enough, it is clear to anyone with an iota of honesty and commonsense, that none of the measures introduced have actually "eased congestion" - on the contrary, at best they have simply displaced traffic from one road to another, and at worst they have badly increased both congestion and air quality. Change isn't the problem but THESE changes are a serious problem.
