Boston Manor Park - Council Destruction of the Wildlife

Gradually the Hounslow Council workers are destroying all the areas where rabbits have lived for years, today they were working on the area next to GSK, this was the last rabbit habitat. Hundreds of trees have been cut down, admittedly some of them were small but ten times as big as those the council will plant, if they plant any. Some of the trees they have cut down were 50 years plus, no doubt the Council will claim they were diseased, pay a tree surgeon enough money and they will find a fault with any tree. There is no such thing as a dead tree, it is a monument to a wonderful living thing that has produced clean oxygen for this planet and it's wildlife and now is home to stag beetles and all sorts of living creatures. Shame on you Hounslow Council you are supposed to be the servants of the residents and taxpayers, how many have expressed their disagreement with what you are doing and how many have expressed their agreement?

Rather like the very silted up Thames here in Brentford which has not been dredged since the Gasworks closed and the railhead vanished.Was very much a working river then.

I cannot find out who actually did it. Seems incredible that work as big as that could take place without anyone sanctioning it.

It appears that Management of the River Lugg has been on the agenda for lots of the meetings of the Parish Council of Kingsland this year (with Environment Agency input). There were issues with flooding at the start of 2020.The Parish Council statement includes :"A site meeting with the Environment Agency in September 2020 identified issues near the bridge and the Environment Agency subsequently wrote that “the left hand bank directly upstream of the bridge could do with some reprofiling due to bank slumping… to ease conveyance as it is currently partially obstructing the 3rd arch of the bridge and will look to the landowner to carry out these works”. Another issue highlighted by the Environment Agency was “a build-up of silt and growth mostly Himalayan Balsam on both the upstream and downstream sides”.No doubt more of the story will emerge.....

Destruction of wildlife. Well I have just read about a truley terrible event which has happened in Herefordshire on the river Lugg. It seems that the river has been straightened out,trees felled etc. Police and enviroment agency staff are on site. A really strange story that seems to say things are out of control.

Basically planting wrong plants and trees. I have read about this previously, especially the trees. People think PLANT A TREE, great. However it's not.

It will take 60 years plus to have any degree of maturity, root based wildlife and air benefits.Very few indigenous species are being planted and with many varieties now vulnerable to natural fungi infection, not being replaced on a plant first and fell later.Too many impatient idealists and not enough genuine pragmatic expertise with wisdom.Most successful landscaping and planting is never seen in the lifetimes of those responsible.Now it's got to be on a CV asap.  Hence the endless third rate bodges.
