Levelling Up

I really do not understand why on earth the government are not taking the opportunity to ensure that all women MPs are treated equally as far as maternity rights are concerned. If Johnson can rush through legislation for his mate Braverman then he could damned well use the time to make sure that that it includes everyone. It is an absolute insult in this day and age that this out of date codswallop even exists let alone that given the chance parliament won't as they say, 'level up'. This is 2021 not that you'd know it where our legislature is concerned. Stella Creasey is absolutely right it is 'a form of direst discrimination'.At least the stupid old fart heading up the Japanese Olmypics has resigned over his comments - Ye Gods, spare us!

This row is not about money. What it is is that prior to this any woman cabinet minister would have to resign her position to go on maternity leave. The bill being pushed through now is to allow Suella Braverman, Attorney General, six months leave when she has her second baby, but the government is not extending this to ALL women MPs. I think it came to most of us as a shock to hear that something as antiquated as this actually still applied, the government really should address this and not exclude any woman at all regardless, it doesn't take an expert to see how this discriminates and creates a two tier system which cannot be right.

I thought it was illegal these days not to be offered maternity pay and its shocking there are differing rules in this day and age

I don't understand either. I thought misogyny was in the past but the current lockdown has brought out the worst in so many people in terms of their attitude towards others and has exposed so many inequalities.
