Absolutely disgraceful but no surprise - why we even have a planning committee is a mystery to me, apart from one or two notable exceptions I don't think many of them even understand the ramifications of some of these applications or care even less. The department's officers make the most weird recommendations which seem so off the wall at times you wonder what they're on. Example - where I live permission given for a two bed house - no problem there, but a condition that it should be finished in a white render to fit with the 'visual amenity' of the area has been lifted, and the bricks being used cannot be found anywhere aroound here. That is, unless you go to the Riverside Conservation Area and there's another house that looks so out of place it can only be described as bizarre. So do we deduce from that that officers don't care or have suddenly decided that the 'visual amenity' that warranted a condition being placed on the development and that affects everybody just doesn't matter anymore?
