Justice at last!

So pleased that the sub-postmasters accused of fraud and theft which was entirely the fault of Post Office management's dodgy I.T. system, have been completely exonerated. Apologies from the head of the Post Office hardly cut it - there needs to be full accountability. Surely the people who knowingly contributed to this, and shredded documents and even tried to get the Judge to stand down from hearing the case, should be looking at least to charges of perverting the course of justice? Credit to good old 'Private Eye' who have been fighting this for years, the value of having a free press, who would not be quiet, and the innocent people who stuck it out for so many years.

With the years of hounding so many of those running sub-post offices it is no wonder that people have been unwilling to take on such a business. Hopefully things will change and management improve now that there has been this public shaming of the Post Office. Is it too much to hope that we get a post office again in Brentford?

Isn't that always the way? Those at the bottom of the food chain get their marching orders, those at the top go on to other lucrative posts with a nice little pay-off to go with another telephone number salary.

Private Eye, who have never let this lie, published a where are they now list of directors and managers who were responsible for passing the buck and hanging these innocent people out to dry.All went into directorships, trusteeships and other 'responsible' and salaried positions.

Correction! Just been announced that Vennells is '..stepping back from her duties as a minister at the Church of St Owen near Bedford, in the diocese of St Albans, calling the scandal a “distraction”.'

Paula Vennells, who was boss of the Post Office during this appalling scandal, has just resigned from her remaining directorships with Morrisons and Dunelm, having recently stepped down from being boss of Imperial College NHS trust. There's pressure to take away her CBE, but that's not as bad as loosing her livelihood and her home and going to prison, like some of the victims she prosecuted. So far she remains an ordained Anglican priest.

Yes, I agree and I hope that these poor people don't give up the fight. I think the so-called 'managers' who presided over this farce need to be hauled into court and asked why they persisted in hounding people, and pulling all manner of underhand tactics in pursuit of hiding what was going on. Then I hope the affected sub postmasters sue the P.Os a*se off. And if the P.O. can't pay then the government certainly should.

It's far from over sadly. Those who accepted an earlier 'settlement' have lost around 80% in legal fees and are unable to pursue Post Office for full and proper compensation. We should also remember that many of the senior manager who frustrated the investigation still hold senior positions either still within Post Office or elsewhere in the public sector.
