Brentford FC War Memorial at Griffin Park 

I hope the war memorial to six former Brentford footballers who lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars, has been saved from the demolition of Griffin Park and moved to the new Community Stadium.

There was a war memorial in the Nat West Bank in Brentford High Street. This was moved to the Nat West branch in Chiswick.The memorials from the old Brentford Market were moved to Western International Market in 1974 and they are still there. They are in a little garden by the entrance to WIM - less than a hundred yards from where the Brentford Fountain now stands!

Aren't there other small memorial plaques still located elsewhere in Brentford... relating to the Boar War etc.Either on the first floor at the Library and/or first floor at the Inverness Club.  There's a photo on Flickr.Also wasn't there a memorial too at the old Swimming Baths?I think that the Gas Works had a memorial as well.

good to hear.I was wondering if I had dreamed about this as it seems so distant.Lets hope maybe BFC sit up and take more notice, of fans and local fans in particular.

Yes,Ecowold and the Brentford FC were asked several times if they would be willing to accommodate the Brentford Fountain but we never did get a reply. What a great place it would be to meet up before a match, and the site is very close to the original location of the Fountain on the northern approach to Kew Bridge.Our campaign to bring the Fountain home is still far from dead!

One of the suggestions made a while ago about where to locate the Brentford Fountain ( which is a form of a memorial) was to locate it near the new stadium - which is close to it's original location and use one of the unused faces of the structure to honour both the Brentford FC war casualties and Brentford icons.I thought that was a terrific idea but I understand Brentford FC would have no truck with it.  Which kind of flies in the face of the Club being a true Community Club which in recent weeks has unravelled with so many clubs.This could be such a keystone for BFC and it's local and former local based fans.Maybe they would think again?
