Trains from Brentford to Richmond

Does anyone know why the service isn't operating from Brentford to Richmond. I've checked with The Trainline and South West Trains but there doesn't seem to be an explanation. Thanks.

I think the Hounslow Loop services were axed during lockdown with reduced demand. The Council tweeted https://twitter.com/LBofHounslow/status/1392133661194084355that from 17th May the service of 2 loop trains an hour was restarted during peak hours :"peak 2 trains per hour until 09152 trains per hour between 1507 and 1845"

It looks as if a new timetable came in on Sunday 16th May which only has a few trains a day in the morning and late afternoon that go directly from Brentford to Richmond round the Hounslow Loop. It used to be a half hourly service throughout the day, so I can understand people being puzzled. Maybe it's a response to reduced demand and staffing levels during Covid and will be reinstated some time in the future.

I rang South West Trains today, it seems that there is a direct service but only around 8/9 a m and then later in the afternoon. No explanation given but agree it is a great disappointment although the 65 is a fairly good bus service the train could be relied on to get you there on time.

I noticed recently that direct trains from Brentford to Richmond were not running. This was a few weeks ago when there was a lot of work going on at Brentford station and I wrongly assumed that this was the reason.  But no, it appears that the direct service has stopped running and as you said Pat, we have to change either at Barnes or Putney. No idea why. I have used the direct service for years. Very disappointing.

Thanks for that but they all involve changing trains at either Barnes or Putney. I was enquiring about the through train but they don't seem to be running.

They were disrupted earlier due to a signalling fault at Vauxhall but both the Trainline and South Western sites now show them as operating normally.
