Hounslows Council web site

Had a look at this - they reproduce them as PDF files which is a quick and dirty way of getting reports onto the web but does cause file sizes to be very big and if you don't have the right software you can't read them.

That's helpful information Kevin and thanks for the explanation about website visits.Corinna's comments about the Tower Hamlets Borough website are worth following up too. It does look much clearer..and seems more refreshing somehow. There's a map showing wards..and the detail is very clear.www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/

NOt sure if its my computer but I am  founding it very difficult to read the Council meeting pages.

I used to work on the IT side for another Council in London. All Council employees had their PCs set so that the Council's page was their default page so everytime they logged onto the internet it would register a visit. So say you have 2,000 employees this would account for at least 40,000 visits a month.  I suspect there is something similar going on in Hounslow as this would make it one of the busiest Council web sites in London if not the busiest. Technically the site is pretty poor compared to many and the Council haven't made much progress on their e-government agenda so there isn't too much reason to visit regularly.

I used the old one quite a lot..but the new version seems to offer a lot more. Amazing statistics are that during September 2005..ie last month..there were 112,154 visitors (!) who between them viewed 3,297,759 pages (!!)So: this Brentford Forum and website does very poorly and seems insignificant by comparision!! It's a pity..is it not?

It was a bit confusing on first glance!!(the Home page)I think it could be improved by being more like the Tower Hamlets Home page!!'However I usually use it for Meetings...and the calendar so I just shoot into to there and I'm fine!!Its a lot better than it was! No doubt more feedback and it will get better!!

Thanks Corinna - it looks a really good site.  Seeking out whether you need planning/building advice or approval is the best idea, I agree.  The advice they can give should be invaluable to help both the applicant and the neighbouring community.  I will have a long look at this site.What do you think of the new web site?  I found it quite hurt my eyes, but maybe that is just me.

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/england/genpub/en/This should help you find quite a lot of answers to planning questions!!There are certain things that do not need planning permission...but they write it in legalise...what you are asking ...it really means you dont need planning permission for this!!This usually happens when someone asks for planning permission when they dont need it.First check the above website..Second always ask The planning Dept if you need permission for whatever you plan to do!!Hope this helps...
