As Guy says, the planning permission for the existing Morrisons site wasn't issued until April 2021. The Planning Committee had resolved to approve the development in July 2020.The existing Morrisons store is 2,787 square metres in size and L&Q propose a replacement store of 3,677 sq. m. plus 215 flats. There are about 125 parking spaces for the existing store with a total of 72 proposed. The Morrisons store within the Ballymore development will be 3,350 sq.m. with 120 basement parking spaces for shoppers. This store is scheduled to open during the first few months of 2023.Is there sufficient demand to support two supermarkets in Brentford High Street? If not, will L&Q revise their plans or will they sell the site to someone else? Does this mean that, after all, Brentford will not be without a supermarket at any stage? To add to the mix, we will eventually be faced with new planning applications for the Heidelberg site and for the north side of the High Street. More immediately, there is uncertainty regarding the redevelopment of the Watermans Arts Centre and the provision of an alternative arts facilty on the site of the old police station in Half Acre.Piecemeal planning decisions must be replaced a clear vision and strategy, drawn up in very close consultation with our community, for our High Street and for Brentford as a whole.
