Keith, for several years now every new development has been required to pay Community Infrastructure Levy, which is non-negotiable and for a residential development in the eastern part of Hounslow is currently £260 (plus indexation) per square metre of new floorspace. Of that £260, £60 goes to the GLA, the rest goes to the local authority who are required to spend on infrastructure needed to support the development of their area, including such as play areas, open spaces, parks and green spaces, cultural and sports facilities, healthcare facilities, academies and free schools, district heating schemes and police stations and other community safety facilities.Given the amount of development which has or is being undertaken in and around Brentford since CIL was introduced in Hounslow in July 2015, and how some of those development attract 7 figure CIL, I must admit I do wonder where all that money is.
