Not the first time. I think it's been as low as a 17% turnout in Brentford about 15 years back.But not good either as really with such a low turnout, the winner dose not really have a genuine mandate as even their win percentage is such a tiny representation of the community.Given all the lives lost protecting democracy, the battles by the suffragettes, if this is how devalued our democracy has become then it's time to do what councils do best.Issue penalty charges to non voters.Even if they all turn up and spoil their ballot papers at least we know that there is a genuine degree of overall dissatisfaction with who and what we vote for.I often wonder what would happen if a vast majority of ballot papers were spoiled? But maybe it's time to have a " None of the Above" box to tick as that's what I really wanted to express.
