Wang Building demolition ..and more?

"Oh how the mighty are fallen"!!Some twenty years ago the WANG Computer Company was the tops..was it not? The sight of their building in London Road Isleworth being demolished this week is both a spectacle and a reminder that things don't always last.Picture being posted on a second message...as they don't seem to like appearing in the opening message!  PS I posted this new topic to the Brentford Forum here late last night..but it failed to arrive..and instead landed on the Chiswick Forum instead. I repeated the exercise..and it flew to Chiswick again. Halloween hangover?

Soap works ..all gone Hugh.What is there..nearly opposite the Wang building...is the old tram depot..The old Hounslow Tram depot..built in 1900ish  for those first electric trams that went from Shepherds bush to the Kew Bridge (Fountain !)..then on through Brentford and Isleworth..to the terminus at the other end of Hounslow outside the Gay Hussar pub (barrack Road/Staines Road junction). Later the Depot was expanded and it took the trolleybuses..and they left the Post Office used the place to garage and clean their vans. Its now a self-storage depot.Outside the Depot today..on the right side..you can still the brick wall of the adjoining plot that housed the Electric Powerhouse that fed the tram wires!

KeithA google Search for Wang Computers gives lots of details about their operations  and subsequent ...demise?In the early 70's 80's they occupied an Office Block on the Lower Richmond Road..south side..near Chalkers Corner.They may well have occupied 1000 GWR ..or parts of it at some time.  The demolition picture was taken from close to Greenhams on the way into Hounslow. I have an idea that that concrete block was built on the site of a former laundry.In 10 days of so ..it will be a pile of rubble.  Oh! how the mighty are fallen...and we smuggly carry on !!

Keith, we used to drive around saying 'who is wang?' as there were buildings with the name on, all over this area.Anyone know what is going to go up when they have finished?

Jim,I may well be wrong, but I thought Wang used to be at what is now 1000 Great West RD,by the junction of Boston Manor Rd.Where is the site in your pic.:-?

Jim, Phil is right there make sure you dont have site underthe one your posting on.When posting a Gif on one site it came out on Wandsworth which i had under it,the Editor took it off for me.

Thanks for that useful tip Phil. Yes it's easy to have lots of sites open at the same time. I'll follow your advice. Maybe some of my pictures of Brentford have  appeared on Vladivostock sites!! ;0)

JimI find that having both the Brentford and the Chiswick sites open at the same time tends to send them loopy and your postings very often appear on the wrong site.  Make sure you have shut the one down before attempting to post on the other.
