Gtech Community Stadium: a committee at work

How can we make the Brentford Community Stadium sound even more dull and uninspiring? Simple! Swap 'Brentford' for 'Gtech'. The dosh will come in handy, that's the main thing, eh. I knew that the idea of 'New Griffin Park' or similar was too much to hope for. But maybe Stadium or Arena might be okay. But no. We're going to crowbar the cuddly but four syllable monstrosity 'Community' into it if it kills us. Besides, call me old fashioned, but I feel the word 'Brentford' is more important than the word 'Community'. So Gtech Brentford Arena/Stadium/Park would be just about palatable. I suppose one could hope that people might start saying 'The Gtech' as in 'The Emirates'. Time will tell. Likely though, that signage, print etc is already on expensive order so a sober re-think is probably too late.

Just to let you know that it was a special occasion today at the Community Stadium.Before the game started the teams and officials formed a semi-circle facing the Main Stand. A Minutes Silence was held to acknowledge the sad passing of HM THE QUEEN... and was followed by the singing of God Save The King. It was all done without the slightest disturbance and was a credit to the fans of both teams and the Brentford Club.At 70 minutes..whilst the game was still in play.. a one minute applause happened.It was moving.Before the game.. players of both teams were on the pitch exercising and warning up. A group of 12 Arsenal players (2 teams of 6) dazzled us all with a competitive routine of short passes to each other.Arsenal continued this short passing wizardry in the game and I think Brentford fans were bedazzled. Bees fans around me conceded that the Bees were outplayed.Several Arsenal players were note worthy. The Bees need to reconsider their style of play.0-3

Let's hope all goes well as it did last time Leeds supporters visited.But no doubt a flotilla of Police Vans will appear around the Kew Bridge area..and the sight of immaculately  groomed Police Horses will be on view.

There's footage of the celebrations at Everton when they became assured of staying in the Premier Divison back in April. The playing surface was covered with their fans..joining those in the stands.. singing and chanting.Will their fans have anything to cheer about when they watch the Bees this weekend?

There was a delightful news report on ITV London news at 10pm this evening about the young lad called Woody who, it seems, has for some time been 'adopted' by the Bees.Footage showed him on the pitch..as a mascot at the Fulham game... and being acknowledged by the Bees team on another occasion as he sits at the front of his Stand.A further example of the Bees helping the Community.Much more coverage on the Internetvia Google.

Frustrating that Eriksens departure was - I too think he owed the club that saved his career when no-one else wanted to know at least a full second season.But anyone, in any occupation, with a potential shorter career would have to take the pragmatic decision for his or her family.I think a statement to that effect would be understood by all of Brentfords fans and I clapped when he was close by.

I think that it was the manner of Eriksen's departure that sticks in the craw of some. No other club was willing to risk giving him even a short-term contract.A simple "thanks, I'm taking an opportunity to secure my family's future" note would probably have negated anything other than 'good natured booing'. Many former players have been greeted warmly on their return to Brentford (until, of course, they score against us).

At the game and apart from Ericsson being booed by some Brentford fans and shouted at by Fred and Fernandes, was a match to remember. Superb performance by the bees but Man Utd?  Really terrible.  Forest Green played better here last season.

An historic happening occurred at the Gtech Community Stadium yesterday...and it will go down in the history of Brentford and Chiswick for many many years to come..such was the adoration for the Brentford footballers who cast aside the likes of Ronaldo and Rashford to record a 4-0 surprisewin against Manchester United.At the end of the game the sound of cheers and singing was a happy experience indeed.Gtech  well pleased I'm sure and Brentford folk uplifted.

The posh Manchester United  coaches (2) are quietly parked outside the Clayton Hotel in Chiswick this evening after travelling down from Lancashire.. so they don't seem too scared.. so far.. to face the mighty Bees/Gees/BeeGees tomorrow at 5.30pm.Apparently the game is live on Sky TV.

Looking at this BRENTFORD V MANCHESTER UNITED ticket  in my hand... is like looking in amazement at a mint  Victorian Penny Black postage stamp from the 1840s!If I don't use it..and keep the counterfoils intact... perhaps the ticket will have added value in future years.I'll be there though... with 17,000 others..roaring the Bees (sorry the Gees) to victory. Fantastic Day out and an amazing turnaround by Brentford.Stayed overnight in Leicester with friends not seen for 20 years. If only we could afford Maddison who this time did not deliver the killer blow but is a real player to watch.

It seems that local buses still refer to the Kew Bridge bus stops as "for the Brentford  Community  Stadium"Shouldn't the Bus Companys be aware of the new GTech signage/ change of name by now?

Good points but:Perhaps there should be less emphasis  on booze surrounding Football. An option maybe for followers and spectators..not blatent booze adverts and reminders  in their face.I'm aware of the grand facade on Strand on the Green once occupied by Pier House Laundry.Would not Sky TV, employing thousands on Brentford's borders, be a more worldly sponser. But it's too late now.Just thinking..what do we manufacture in Brentford these days? All gone..except Sky.. producing TV.

Fuller have there new offices- Rather nice retro offices just 100m away by the river  and close to Kew Bridge, they still operate pubs hotels and Restaurants, The Griffin Brewery remains and they are now Londons largest Brewers and have a significant export market.But the ownership is now split with Ashai of Japan owning the Brewing Business.So only half a business a shared name. But both operate locally so a 100% local connection with both Fuller Smith and Turner and Brentford FC  going back a very long time.  The links are embedded in the histories of both.So a massive opportunity lost methinks.The Brands would have benefitted from Brentford's Global exposure and that's also good for local jobs and commerce.

But isn't Fullers on an increasing decline.. compared to the new up and coming Gtech?Fullers don't even have their Sports Ground  in Chiswick anymore.Fans watching the game may  still say "Up the Bees"Others might choose "Up the Gees"So "Up the BeeGees" might be the new cheers. Their music was catchy.

At the Game yesterday and as a guest in the Posh Bit, a chap came up with a lament about Fullers missing a golden goal."It should have been called the Fullers ESB Community Stadium  - ESB being Extra Special Brentford"The wave of laughter, cheering and applause as it went round the bar is rather indicative of what Fullers have probably missed out on. And Brentfordians too.

"The Odeon" used to be called the "Gaumont" in the old days Raymond..and then travelling towards Chiswick ... on the left..was the "Regal"and at Young's Corner ..still on the left.. was the "Commodore".Remember the "ABC Minors" on Saturday  mornings?It was at the Commodore that many of us saw Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" in the mid 50's!That film did rock the Establishment.Let's hope Brentford FC rocks again this coming season!

GTech Brentford Stadium would be at least preferable.This sponsorship removing the name and identity is awful and everywhere.However it often backfires.Hammersmith Odeon has been called many things since, but it's still called Hammersmith Odeon by almost everyone. Even though it's a long time since it was actually called that and was called something else before Odeon Cinemas.
