Simon White explained"Saddened to see what I take to be homophobic comments on the site"They're not homophobic comments and that don't just apply to LGBT pubs; but to any situation where customary politeness can lead to social embarrassment. The Six Bells could just as well have been, say a Country and Western Pub. And Jim Lawes not knowing this, and feeling thirsty goes in there one day, goes up to the bar and orders his drink. While out of the jukebox a woman with a nasal twang is singing "Mah Daddy Just Died*. Jim is then subject to the "wrong kind of approach; a man, or a woman or a couple, clearly country and Western fans, approach him at the bar "Hello Stranger isn't it great to have a Country and Western Pub in Brentford ? Isn't Bobby Joe Pickens (the woman on the jukebox) just great ? Do you think this one is better than her last one, "Mah Mommy Just Died". And being well brought up, and polite, Jim will just stand there nodding away politely rather than causing them any embarrassment by telling them what he really might think of C&W music and the senimental nasal cacophony coming out of the jukebox for all anyone knows; and he that only came in here for a drink. And the same would apply just the same if he'd turned up on railway modellers night - "Have you seen the new 000 guage engines from Nakamacci (made up name); Bird watchinhg night - " seen any crested reed warblers lately" and there's Jim stood at the bar nodding away politely. Just hoping they don't ask any probing questions "what colour are the wings again ? It's not just all about you, you see. And so maybe an apology or a correction is called for ? michael adams
