Bridge across Canal

I'm no engineer. I thought they were putting a footbridge across to West Brentford Lock not a dual carriageway. What a mess.

It works and does what was intended.It's the appearance, and structure that is problematic. The graffiti is external and can't be seen from the user position. ( It can be seen from the tube) But removing it damages the panels and causes swift corrosion. Costly to do.

As another enthusiastic user of the Chiswick Busness Park ready-rusted footbridge, I have to say we never thought it would be built. Despite it being in the original plans, it was only after years of delay from the developers and I assume persistence from elsewhere that finally saw it done.

I don't recognise any of what you say.  I use this bridge several times weekly in both directions and have not seen any graffiti.  It's a great link between Chiswick Park the workplace and Chiswick Park station and beyond, saving thousands of people time and giving them more options as a pedestrian.  It has won several awards for its architecture and engineering. What problems and what materials?

Yes.  Has been dogged with problems since it was built, but now a target for graffiti and by it's choice of external materials very difficult to remove without leaving other problems .

Personally I like the Brentford Lock West development - no accounting for tastes!I believe the overhanging wharf buildings will be replaced with something similar.

That's a good point Sue.. yes the bridge will add much convenience to many.However my long walk around parts of Brentford this afternoon(after  watching Brentford v Arsenal!) included a trip up Commerce Road.I recall the factories,the overhanging wharf and the jungle of industrial premises. They were fascinating. Today I was so disappointed to see such bland uninteresting developements. No character at all.I thought that Durham Wharf Lane would be exciting.. but the new flats looked so dreary for a new build of wapping proportions.(Indeed wasn't the real Durham Wharf located on the OTHER SIDE of the Canal once.?)Since my previous excursions up Commerce Road..the buses seem to be parked in greater numbers in a different area.. affording more building potential at the previous parking plot.The overhanging warehouses have gone..and one can see the new bridge assembly point across the Canal in Robin Grove.Yes the bridge will be useful.. but what a disappointment  is Commerce Road and West Lock. Awful! Sorry!

And it will also considerably shorten the walk to Brentford Station for those living or working in the Commerce Road area.

It will look rather like the bridge that can be seen on the tube near Bollo Lane. Just a few years old and looks terrible but hey! it's innovative and contemporary.

Noted..thanks Paul.On that new estate on Commerce Road are there any places of interest other than the bus depot.Shops? Wine bar's?, trips on the Canal? etcI remember several factories used  to be down that way..Rankins, FJ.Milner the printers etc.Once upon a time there were tram lines on Commerce  Road from the  High Street...so they could change direction and return to where they  had just been.Ah, Robin Grove Recreation Ground..another hidden treasure. I recall seeing the allotments there too with the gardening sheds close to the Canal. How idyllic.

It's from the towpath on the Grand Union Canal (where the old sheds were) across to the park at the end of Robin Grove.

I'm not an expert on every Brentford location.Where exactly is the location of this new bridge Paul.. from where to where and for what purpose?No one has so far replied to your posting. Are they in the dark ..same as me?
