Is open again! Hoorah!!

On my long walk round Brentford today ..I did pop into the Northumberland Arms this afternoonand found some 20 folk enjoying themselves.It's only been open under new management for 7 days.Apparently many pubs in Brentford are Brewery owned..and one or two others not.The Northumberland is not quite the cosy pub of old..and having bare floors..I imagine the occasional music nights could test the ear drums.It's very clean and modern!I was pleased to find Thatchers Cider there...and watched a table of six playing 9 card Bragg.Later..I was outside the Inverness  Club and was interested to learn that the upstairs has been converted in 4 flats. Sign of the times? (I expect that the Memorial Plaque commemorating those who lost their lives in the Boar Wars has been kept somewhere)That reminds me what about the old Memorial Plaque in the Swimming Baths?The topiary WHALE in Clifden Road looked good.. well trimmed and cared for.Ths Brook Pub, in New Road looked busy.. and I plan to follow Raymond's recommendation sometime.

Please ignore that last post as I got my King Charles' mixed up in my head with King George's over the years.George and Dragon wouldn't be an appropriate  pub name at any time....

I not trying to be disrespectful but I had a little chuckle.It's good that a certain Brentford Pub closed some years back...and it's name long forgotten. It would have been insulting to King George and his Queen Consort.The building is now a block of flats ..on the corner with Brent Lea.Perhaps I shouldn't  be posting this!

Thanks for those additional Pub names John.Having the Lamb Pub in my list was a slip of the pen.. as it's deep in Chiswick.. but the name popped out of my head!As you may know the borders of Brentford and Chiswick Wards were recently changed and although "One over the Ait" is located in Brentford..its now in a Chiswick Ward. Thankfully the Empress remains in Brentford... saved by a wonky boundary line.You mention the developing local music scene...and in my view, that's a plus..rather than rows of TV screens. I used to enjoy the traditional jazz nights at the Brewery  Tap and haven't been able to visit there recently.Of course the local Hotels are venues for a quieter pint .. the most posh probably being the Hilton in Syon Park.So a Brentford pub crawl would be a challenge with so many options.A Brentford Hootie sounds great. Can you organise!Next stop The Brook!

There are more indeed Jim, the Griffin, Express, One over the Ait and the Weir(white horse) and long may they all continue as also noted there has been a rise in the number of live music being played at many of these pubs. Perhaps Brentford could one day have it's own Hootie to rival Hanwell.

You have missed out the very excellent Jewel in the Crown.The Brook in Brook Road South.Amazing beers, fab food, unrecognisable and lovely ambience to what it was previously and a local couple as landlords who work tirelessly to make visits special..There's been a greet display of local pictures on the wall on the recent occasions we've been in.But it's not open Mondays or Tuesdays - which are usually our going out nights.

Noted Ken. With the Six Bells being recently relaunched, the Magpie and Crown being actively marketed, the established Brewery Tap firmly in the Blue Zone with Plonkers,not forgetting the Waterman's Arms, the Lamb, Kings Arms, The Globe and the Nelson ..one hopes that they all will have their own magic formular to survive amongst all this competition.High alcohol prices in some pubs make "buying a round" a heady gesture.I was hearted to see the Milford Arms in Isleworth filled with live music lovers the other evening..whilst The Plough at Norwood Green brings in large numbers under the Manager Paul who used to run several Brentford Pubs.In that list of active Brentford Pubs..I omitted mentioning the New Inn, the Horseguardsman, the Black Dog, the Inverness Club and The Beehive!Blimey Brentford is still full of Pubs!Can there be more? PS: Coach and Horses..
