Local History talk 6th October at 11.30

We are hosting what promises to be a very interesting talk on the history of Chiswick given by Vivienne Bales, a historian and archivist and the Chair of the Hounslow Heritage Guides Association, at 11.30 on Thursday 6th October at our premises in Oxford Road North, W4 4DN.  The talk is free and open to everyone.  Light refreshments available.  More information:  ageconcernchiswick@outlook.com.  Buses H91, 237, 267, 110, 440.  Gunnersbury tube.

Thank you for the heads up on this event about Chiswick's History.It apertained to Brentford too.The evolving landscape, the Thames, the streams, water floodplan, wildlife arriving (including Hippos!)..the arrival of humans, fishing,agriculture, boating.up and down the Thames,boatbuilders,market gardeners, footpaths and roads, horse  and carts etc etc. There was no need to mention.Mylos or Goodbans!Some 30+ locals attended the talkdelivered beautifully by Vivienne..The talk provided a great base for putting our local history into prospective.Now about those flats flats flats..

Over the past 25 years..since the Internet arrived...and these Forums 20 years ago... we have been able to view pictures, read and discuss  Brentford of old.Exploring  the FORUM SEARCH button can lead you to an array of subjects and pictures. (Some pictures have disappeared because the Image Hosting Sites have been terminated..and these days posting images on this Forum are nigh on difficult anyway).We are blessed thesedays to be able to look at books published about the area  like those of Janet McNarama,Gillian Clegg(RIP),Caroline Hammond etc.Cecia Cotton's Brentford High Street collosus. is formidable.There used to be an early website with many pictures by a gentleman called  Peter Roff (or Ruff). These days joy is to be had by looking at certain.Brentford Facebook pages where images and memories prevail.# BRENTFORD THRU MY LENS.# ALL THINGS BRENTFORD.There may be others.Check the input by old Brentford Historian..Neil Chippendale now believed to be in Australia.I recently stubbled again on theJOHNSTON ISLAND ARTISTS website..and one called BRENTFORDGALLERY.Have a look!More amazing  was the pre- historic news about Brentford. Evidents of Hippopotomus roaming the area!! Surely that's joking.No no..the Museums have evidence.!

Excellent. That's just up my street..as my Dad used to say.Once..Brentford was twinned with Chiswick... 1930s to 1965. Since 1965 ..both swallowed up by Hounslow!
