Cod and Rock

I would just like to give a shout out to this great local chippy.Good quality food freshly cooked to order and the skin removed from the fish, essential if you want crispy batter.Very reasonable prices too.PS No, I am not getting a bung for this post !

Another fab chippy is Nims in London Road Isleworth (corner of Linkfield Road).We've had a few deliveries from there and never disappointed! Always arrives piping hot and not a greasy chip in sight!

I had a huge(and only medium sized) chunky piece of skinless cod and a small portion of chips, all freshly and perfectly fried before my eyes last night.It's one and a half meals really..fish butty for lunch today.

Well, despite me just wanting to give a shout out in support of a very good local business,most of you guys won't even give it a chance.Up to you,but you are missing out.My verdict on the food at the Albany, the food is quite often not made to order and the chips are thin and a little greasy,the fish is ok but also a little on the greasy side,which you get when it has been hanging around in the warming cabinet.As for Mario's, the last time I went(it's too far and I don't eat my fish and chips in my car) the chips looked and tasted like them there frozen 'steak' style chips and were hard and a bit dry.But the trhing is,I have tried both before making up my mind.You can get a £1.75 portion of chips at Cod and Rock, which is perfect for me and you can get a balti pie,which is not common.Either way, enjoy your chips as I will continue to do.

Beacuse Just Eat are already charging Marios a whopping commission of around 30-40%. Otherwise the numbers just don't stack up. If, as example you live 10 minutes from Mario's the 99p charges would have to cover the delivery rider's return trip of 20 minutes. Unless the rider is being paid under £3.00 per hour you are either paying an inflated Just Eat menu price or Mario's are losing out.

Also, please remember that in addition to charging £2.99 or whatever for delivery that the 'delivery' companies charge the restaurants and takeaways up to 40% 'commission' on the order which invariably means that it is far cheaper to go to the restaurant and collect.

Around £7.One advantage of Cash only enables a lower price to the customer.Amazes me that people are happy pay a premium on to for paying by card and then another charge for delivery.. and then claim it's become too expensive.

Albany - What sort of price are we talking for a regular cod and chips ? Have always passed it, due to cash only policy, but willing to give it a try.

If ever you get out your passport and go to Hanwell, the Golden Chip,which I have been using on and off for 40 odd years, is a very fine purveyor of fish and chips and the associated comestibles from such establishments,especially the home made fish cakes.

I rarely venture much on foot beyond the Six Bells, No idea why, never have, but by that point am usually on a bus. But the Albany one is tucked away but revered by football fans especially away fans pre Premiership.South Ealing has two fish and chip shops this side of Popes lane and Northfields has two. All are fairly good but the Albany one is consistently good. And currently the best value for money.Best Fish and Chips I've had in London was in a place in Notting Hill gate by far the best was in North Yorkshire - but it was a posh sit down place. London one a bit pricey but not outrageous but the Yorkshire one was top quality service ambience and food and very affordable - even to folk with t'London accents!

Be assured Keith.. that if you went to Mario's...you'd scoff the lot in your car outside and have little  left  for your family!Agreed though...one should visit each fish and chip shop before making a judgement.I do like the whale in Clifden Road!

I don't know how anyone can compare unless one has tried both, or all the local chippies, which I have.Anyway, the op was about local, ie: Brentford, chippies.By the time I got my chips home from Mario's,they would be cold.

Agree with Jim Lawes, Marios near Isleworth Swimming Pool,best fish and chips for miles, nice light batter cooked in fresh oil, reasonably priced as well and I am 87.

?Raymond comes across as a well informed Brentfordian..and I too was surprised to gather that he wasn't aware of the fish and shop at Brentford Bridge... but it's hardly an issue.We need Forum posters!

I assume the point he was making is that there would be little point in recommending a fish bar to people who already knew where it is, given that they're more likely to have tried it already. The people who would be more interested would be people who were up until that point unaware of its existence, so it would be helpful to give the location. michael adams

I've met many wallies in my time Raymond... but not pickled.ones!Yes.. the Brentford Bridge area is a destination for many drinking and eating venues.. and we wish them well.However others might prefer to nip down to Mario's on the road to Twickenham ..just past the Swimming Baths.My favourite Fish.and Chip spot is WTF..on Kings Street..near Ravenscourt Park.

I thouGHt you were a local lad Raymond so would know where it is,obviouisly not so.It's next to the newly re-opened Duke of Northumberland pub,which is on London Rd at the junction with Commerce Rd opposite the Holiday Inn.Give it a try to compare with your usual chippy, I am sure you won't be disappointed.

You've missed out where it is.There's another absolute Gem of a Chippy in Albany Road,  Albany Fish Bar.We have friends from abroad who make it the first thing they do on returning to the locality.It's cash only and I wonder now if that impedes custom a bit.But certainly does not impede the quality of the Fish and Chips which is consistently excellent year in, year out.
