Brentford's Waterman's Art Centre needs your support.

You don't have to go to the Cinemaor to a live Artists Show,or a musical bash,or have to buy alcohol,or eat at the Restaurant/cafe,or have to attend the Art Gallery,or have quiet session on your laptop,But you can pop in and have a close view of the Thames, the Brentford Ait or Eyot or Isle (uninhabited except for wildlife)gawk at Lot's Ait and see they''re up to.At low tide you can observe hundreds of various birds having a meet up.with their mates.ULook.hard and you"ll see the pink building across the Thames..Kew Palace..where the late Queen Elizabeth had her 80th bash.You'll be refreshed with your short visit there..especially in that colourful lower area.You could even organise an Event there, display your Art even.Lovely staff..very chatable..but they are missing visits.Pop in,say hello,wander round.and say hello to the wildlife and Thames. In a few years I'll be Flkats Flats Flatz..#+ Keep Out sign

I went with a friend to Waterman's this afternoon to see The Lost King, a charming tale and a good natured film Very enjoyable and it started on time.

The seats at the Ealing Project are certainly more comfortable than at Waterman's, but they cost slightly more.Ihave always loved the fact that I can walk to Waterman's and that they have a discount on Mondays and is rarely anywhere near full when I go in the afternoons.It's convenience as mush as anything for me.

Watermans Cinema was the weakest aspect when it first opened. Seats were never comfortable ( but then nor were most cinemas in the early 80s) but the sound and projection was iffy too.But the theatre, arts and general entertainment was really good. Always packed and well patronised.

Another point is that the seats are much more comfortable at both Act One and the Ealing Project.

Yes, the Waterman's great USP has always been starting the film at the advertised time.I do like the Ealing Project, though, and have even become a member. I love the vast space with its squashy sofas where one can wait for friends. I have a nasty feeling that I won't be renewing my Waterman's membership when it's due in May.As for its moving. They've been talking about that for so many years that I hope nobody's been holding their breath.

I went to see Moonage Daydream yesterday at the Ealing Project.Fab film and well worth it if you are a Bowie fan, but sitting through fully half an hour of adverts before it was a bit of a bind.

I thought it was just us but the excellent cinema has been very short notice and not really playable. Similarly we went about 3-4 times a month, sometimes in the same week. Seen some unexpectedly amazing films and some absolute stinkers.As well as excellent mainstream films.But cannot help but feel that the waterman has been losing it's way since before the lockdown and all this talk about it moving is really going to finish it off.If you can't make a not perfect but OK venue work in what must be one of the best locations in London, then something must be wrong.And decades ago, Boy! Did that place buzz.Will a new location fare any better?  Guarantee it will be a shadow and suffer the same impediments or worse.

Going in to watch the birds isn't really 'supporting' it, though, is it? They need people to go in and spend, be it on the cinema, theatre or restaurant.Unfortunately, the cinema has lost its way since lockdown. I used to go there 4 or 5 times a month, usually with a group of friends, often eating as well, but now they don't tell you what their forthcoming programme is until the last minute, so I've usually seen the film already by the time it gets to Waterman's. When I point this out to them, they shrug their shoulders.I fear it's going to be mostly Act One and the Ealing Project from now on.

Enjoy it while it lasts, it's soon to be relocated to a way inferior location.
