Do two buildings on the Ballymore development site need SAVING?

I've noticed two buildings that were destined to be SAVED ...are seemingly beinguncared for, are showing signs of disrepairand could well be deemed soon for sad demolition.One is the old Wilson and Kyle staff canteen and grinding  building that had the interesting staggered brickwork.The Jupp overhanging warehouse could do with some tlc before that too is given the bulldozer treatment.Anyone concerned?

The now demolished Wilson & Kyle building if located in somewhere like Birmingham or Hoxton would have been a jewel of a location for conversion to either light industrial or residential use.  Incredibly well but;d and durable and full of genuine charisma if Brentford's fine former Industrial prominence and how the great many decent grade jobs that spawned locally and created the wealth for the residential districts around it long before the Airport took over.I wonder where all these decent jobs will be in the new 15 min walk or cycle era of overdensification will actually be?

I meandered around the "South of the High Street" area yesterday and spoke  with a fairly senior person...with kmowledge ...and was told that the Wilson & Kyle building still standing (Grinding Room downstairs and staff canteen upstairs) will be savedAND Jupp's overhanging wharf structure too.I hope that's so as they are both special in.my mind. The overhanging wharf on the Grand Union Canal has already been demolished

Precisely. But all readers who voted for the current Council only have themselves to thank or blame. Time and again Hounslow Council has rolled over and done the bidding of developers.

It comes down to the Council's approach to planning permission. Why on earth did they not require Ballymore to restore the old buildings, and put protective fences around them, before digging a single foundation for new ones?

Yes. The Wilson & Kyle building should never have been demolished at all. It should have been listed; its destruction was flagrant vandalism. The lovely old curved-window building will almost certainly be flattened. I read somewhere that it was in a state of worse disrepair than had at first been thought. That’s code for ‘let’s find an excuse to knock it down’. These developers are not to be trusted. There’s no VAT on new-builds - VAT is payable on refurbishments. You do the maths. None of this development is done for the preservation of history, cultural enrichment or the benefit of the local community. It’s all about shareholder dividends.

I wonder what will happen to the old buildings too. Including the other ones that front onto the High St - the old Motorwise building with the lovely old curved glass windows. Unfortunately Ballymore already has permission to demolish the Jupp warehouse and replace it with - surprise! - a massive block of flats.
